This course has been written in line with Standard 2 of the CWDC induction criteria and is divided into 3 units:
What is fostering?
This module looks at the different types of fostering that a carer may experience and discusses the different providers of fostering services. The unit then moves on to look at what role foster carers have in a child’s life and the responsilities they have. Participants will be able to access information from BAAF and sataistics that highlight the young people currently in foster care.
Legislation
This module is concerned with the legislation and guidance surrounding foster care. There is information on Every child Matters and the national minimum care standards, highlighting how these may impact on a foster carer.
Working together
This module looks at working as part of the foster team and provides information on the different people that a foster carer may be required to work with. There is a video presentation highlighting the chaos created in a child’s life when there are a large number of people around them.
Each module offers extra reading and the chance to research topics further. At the end of each unit there is a short assessment to confirm that learning has taken place. To complete the course you are required to undertake a final assessment and score a minimum 80%. You will then receive a certificate that highlights the exact standards covered by the course.
